Cyndi Leach, Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2019, is focused on helping those who have been newly diagnosed with a spinal cord injury or disease that would limit their mobility to a wheelchair. She wants to be an example that life has so much to offer them even in this situation.
Cyndi had polio at age two and was the March of Dimes Poster Child for McLean County Illinois at age seven. She began attending Easter Seals Camp at age five and attended every year until she graduated from University High School in Normal Illinois. At that time, she became active with the Easter Seals Board of Directors and eventually President elect. However, as time would have it, she was transferred with Ozark Airlines to Orlando, Florida. Ozark was eventually bought out by TWA Airlines, so she began a career in the Hotel Industry. She retired as Convention Services Manager from the Daytona Beach Marriott due to the effects of Post Polio.
Cyndi continues to remain active working part-time for Rhea Medical Center, doing adaptive waterskiing, serving on the Ladies Leadership Team at her church and singing in the choir. In November 2018, she will also begin serving on the Board of Directors for SPARC Chattanooga.
She is no stranger to the Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee competition. Cyndi competed three years ago and received first runner up, the People's Choice Award and Ms. Congeniality. She has remained active with the organization ever since. This year, not only did Cyndi win the title of Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2019, but she was also awarded Ms. Congeniality and the Advocacy Award.
Cyndi will be spreading hope wherever she goes and she will be recruiting future Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee contestants as well as Little Miss and Junior Miss contestants.
One of her other missions for this year is to bring awareness to the communities of Tennessee to be more compliant with the ADA regulations for sidewalks, curbs, parking and store fronts.
Cyndi will compete in the Ms. Wheelchair American 2020 pageant in Little Rock, Arkansas the first week in July 2019.
