Danita is a former Nashville police officer from Hermitage, TN. She sustained a spinal cord injury while on duty and uses a power wheelchair full-time.
In the time since her injury, she has stayed involved with the Nashville Police Department and has been a board member on several local non-profit organizations aimed to provide aid to both women of color and families of first-responders injured or killed in the line of duty.
She has also taken the time to work on her own goals. She says “Since becoming a wheelchair user I’ve had the opportunity to advance my education by earning a Master’s degree and completing law school. However, my biggest accomplishments are being an advocate for others, helping others find their voice, and personal autonomy.”
Her personal moto is: Sit tall. Stand firm. Never waver. Never give up.
