“The Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 Pageant and Leadership Institute was one of the most life changing experiences I’ve had. I’ve been to the South Pacific and I’ve been to Washington DC advocating for people with disabilities. But never in all my life have I had the opportunity to spend an entire week surrounded by other women in wheelchairs with the same drive to advocate, educate, and spread awareness as I hold myself. Never have I felt more proud to be as unique as I am.”
During the competition, days began at 7 am lasting until 8 pm. The pageant consisted of four days of workshops and judges interviewing the 28 contestants that attended. Along with the speeches and preparing for the upcoming competition, the contestants enjoyed local sights and entertainment – even holding a real New England Clam Bake. At the main event, each woman presented a 2-minute speech detailing her unique platform during her reign. The Crowning Ceremony began at 4 pm on Saturday, the 11th. While Mariah Kilbourne of Texas won, that has not dampened Lawrence’s commitment to her remaining reign in Tennessee.
The Ms. Wheelchair America 2014 Pageant will be held in Houston, TX July 15-21, 2013. As for the Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee Competition, this will be held during the spring of 2013.
